The Why
Hi, I’m Tatum—writer, nonprofit director, advocate, and mom of two girls, one of whom is a survivor of childhood cancer. I love the color yellow, being outside, laughing loudly, and not taking life too seriously when I can help it.
Professionally, I’ve spent years supporting programs that connect people to nature as a tool for healing. I work alongside community leaders who understand something our culture is only just beginning to remember: nature isn’t a luxury—it’s essential.
When my own daughter was diagnosed with cancer—not once, but twice—those beliefs became more than just theory. They became survival.
Grounded Motherhood was born in hospital rooms and long stretches of uncertainty. It took shape in the rhythm of IV drips, the painful sight of kindergarten uniforms never worn, and the quiet chaos of trying to hold everyone together when my heart was in a million pieces. Nature became the one place I could breathe. Not to escape—but to stay present, and stay human.
Whether we call it Creation or simply Earth, the natural world holds a kind of wisdom and steadiness that no therapy or well-meaning phrase can offer. It doesn’t ask you to fix anything. It just reminds you who you are. These days, self-care often gets reduced to a face mask and some TikTok scrolling—and hey, no shame—I love it too.. But when you’re carrying this much, your nervous system needs something deeper. Not more hustle or pressure. Just space. Stillness. And support that actually helps.
This space was created for the women doing it all while quietly falling apart. For the ones holding everyone else together. For the ones who haven’t had a real exhale in months.
You’re not alone. This space was made for you.
